a spot of bother: blog bookgroup

I am going to read this book over the next month and then do a book review blog on it.  I wondered if anyone of you blog readers might also like to join me in reading the same book and we can sort of do a ‘blogging book group’ thing.  I could include in my book review (in a months’ time) a few bookgroup-type questions to give us something to respond to.

About the book
Name:  A Spot of Bother

Genre:  Contemporary Novel, Fiction

Author:  Mark Haddon

He Also Wrote:  The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (I have read this one and it is a stand-out brilliant book)

Blurb on the back cover:  At 57, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden, reading historical novels, listening to a bit of light jazz.  Then Katie, his unpredictable daughter, announces that she is getting remarried, to Ray.  Her family is not pleased – as her brother Jamie observes, Ray has ‘strangler’s hands’.  Katie can’t decide if she loves Ray, or loves the way he cares for her son Jacob, and her mother Jean is a bit put out by the way the wedding planning gets in the way of her affair with one of her husband’s former colleagues.  And the tidy and pleasant life Jamie has created crumbles when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to the dreaded nuptials.  Unnoticed in the uproar, George discovers a sinister lesion on his hip, and quietly begins to lose his mind.

How much does it cost?
I bought my copy online from www.fishpond.com.au – they delivered it to my door via Australia Post within 10 days after ordering.  It cost me $12.50.  I got free delivery because I didn’t ask for it in a hurry.

Upcoming date of book review blog
On or around the weekend in a months’ time from now.  That takes us to Saturday, 28th May 2011.

So.  How about it?  Anyone interested?  Do any of you like reading out there?  Well?  Do you?  Come on!

  1. Sign me up duckie! I'm going to reserve mine at the library and see if it delivers it quickly enough in time for the blog at the end of May!
